Day 308/365 (June 22, 2009)

a day of nothing turned into an evening of fun! i thought my only activity of the day was going to be buying someone a ticket for altarholic appreciation day, then i found out Sasha and i were going to Born for Broadway, a benefit in support of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

i got to the apartment and spent some time with Marty and Fred while Sasha got ready... then we slowly made out way to NWS. it turned out to be quite the awesome event and i wish i had recorded it. Richard Kind was the host and he was hilarious and there were some standout performances, and some "not so much".  Noah Weisberg (with one S) did a cute and funny number (with Krysta R.). Steve Rosen and awesome music director guy came out and did their absurdly amazing broadway medley and i really have no idea how Steve is able to remember all of those lyrics! Then Grandpa Vanderbilt (from Gossip Girl) who is actually a two time tony winner sang two songs and one was Elvis so he could say "thank you very much" and the other was i've been everywhere complete with fast paced town rattling off lyrics and he was um fantastic! aaron lazaar sang a really great original song and it even had a lyric in it about where is grandpa vanderbilt (except it was with his actual name which is something naughton). i would also like to point out how Grandpa Vanderbilt was introduced Richard was like blah blah blah, gossip girl, and sasha and i were like who is he? then he walked out, we saw him, and were like OH! then there were some not so great ones... one of which (i think his name is adrian bailey) is the guy who fell through the little mermaid trap door. he came out using a cne and he sang his song and he sounded pretty terrible actually, not worthy of having been in 20 broadway/touring shows and then PEOPLE FREAKING GAVE HIM A STANDING OVATION! just because you have a cane doesnt mean you deserve a Standing Ovation for an inferior performance! (that is my soap box anyway). i am so glad i was able to go and that i went with sasha.

another awesome moment of the night was when people were sharing stories about the Reeve and one of their friends recounted when Dana had called to say she had a date with someone and when she finally told him the name of her date he said he was like "you're Fing dating superman?" that was pretty funny.

anywho it went until 11 and i needed to get home ASAP since it was an early day to rush for next to normal, so i went home and was in bed by 12:03!

ps we took this picture in one of the fisheye mirrors before leaving NWS
